RIVEN: One-man funeral doom project from Belgium

RIVEN is one-man funeral doom project founded by Tom Mesens in 2017 in Antwerp (Belgium). His music is a slow church organ infused funeral doom metal. The music itself has a heavy resemblance of bands like SKEPTICISM, AHAB and PANTHEIST. RIVEN does not perform live and has always been a solo project, however it is not excluded that there will never be a full band around the RIVEN project.

New EP titled “Cretaceous” was released in digital format by Sepulchral Silence. RIVEN was always about history, with the first records being about the middle-ages. Tom always had a love for dinosaurs and had the feeling the middle-aged subject was told. So the next record would be about the extinction of the dinosaurs.

BIOGRAPHY:
RIVEN is one-man funeral doom project founded by Tom Mesens in 2017. He lives in Antwerp, Belgium. Tom wanted to play slow church organ infused funeral doom music outside his other musical projects. He is best known as the guitar player of doom/death metal band Svarthart, which he also performs live with. The music itself has a heavy resemblance of bands like SKEPTICISM, AHAB and PANTHEIST. RIVEN does not perform live and has always been a solo project, however it is not excluded that there will never be a full band around the RIVEN project.

RIVEN released it’s first album “Hail to the King” in 2018 and was very well received. RIVEN started working together with Spanish label “Sepulchral Silence” to release the album on all the online streaming platforms. The project was later disbanded, but Tom restarted it during 2020 lockdown in Europe. During that year two new tracks were released as separate single releases. In 2022 the new EP “Cretaceous” containing two brand new songs was released.

With Riven being a one-man solo project and Tom has a healthy do-it-yourself vision, everything on the record is done by Tom Mesens himself.
