French Doom/Grunge Metal Power-Trio Returns with Their Most Concise and Varied Work to Date
After wandering through the suffocating streets of Paris on single “Sun Decay” and watching revenge erase the line between victim and tormentor on “Mutt”, French doom/grunge metal power trio CLEGANE have now revealed the complete picture. Their highly anticipated third studio album, ‘Ocean of Black Thoughts’, is out now via Almost Famous.
Evolution Rooted in Darkness
Three years after their acclaimed release ‘White of the Eye’, CLEGANE return with more grunge running through their bloodstream, tighter song structures, and an expanded musical range. While the vocals move closer to the surface on this record, the atmosphere remains unmistakably theirs: thick, oppressive, and permanently shadowed by anxiety, addiction, and depression. Across six tracks, direct impact and slower-burning tension coexist seamlessly, showcasing a band fully in command of their sound.
Heavy Roots, Direct Impact
Formed in the Paris region, CLEGANE have carved out a unique sonic identity where the crushing weight of doom metal meets grunge’s damaged nerves and the visceral, physical directness of a power trio.‘Ocean of Black Thoughts’ follows their previous records ‘Funeral at Sea’ and ‘White of the Eye’, reconnecting the band with its past while pushing their songwriting into more concise, dynamic territory.
Production & Visual Identity
To capture the raw energy of the new material, CLEGANE reunited with Olivier Millot (who previously mixed the band’s debut EP) for mixing duties, while the album was mastered by Thibault Chaumont at Deviant Lab. Visual artist Tib Gordon continues to shape the band’s aesthetic world through entirely handmade artwork. Mirroring the musical progression, the new visual identity retains CLEGANE’s signature mark while breaking away from the visual codes of their earlier releases. The destination may have changed. The weather has not.
