THE LUMBERJACK FEEDBACK’s music is based on heavy & powerful guitars riffs, driven by two drummers and a bass guitar player as massive rythm section, where you can feel the influence of PELICAN, NEUROSIS and SUNN O))).
The band is instrumental and gives a raw show with two words as a catch phrase: “Loud and Low!”
Interview: Simon Herbaut – Guitar
Hello, thank you for finding time for an interview! What memories do you have of composing firsts songs for THE LUMBERJACK FEEDBACK? What was the biggest challenge? When you started making music, were you thinking about it in terms of a career?
Hello, and thank you for having us! Composing our first songs was a journey into uncharted territory. We were still figuring out what THE LUMBERJACK FEEDBACK sounded like. The biggest challenge was finding cohesion between the weight of our riffs and the atmospheric textures we wanted to include. Back then, we weren’t thinking about music as a career— we were simply driven by the need to create and share something heavy and meaningful. The idea of a career came much later, as people connected with our sound.
Let’s start with the last album “The Stronghold”. It’s the first THE LUMBERJACK FEEDBACK album in fivec. Is it a landmark album for band? So, now that over half a year has passed since the release of the album and since you’ve been performing it live, how do you feel it has been received by the audience?
Absolutely, “The Stronghold” feels like a milestone. It’s not just the passage of time but also the evolution in sound and emotion that makes it special. After five years, we aimed for a deeper, more dynamic experience, and the feedback has been incredible. Audiences have embraced the album during live performances, which reassures us that the risks we took paid off.
What inspired you the most while writing new songs? Can you tell me more about your new influences? I think that new album opened door into for step into new dimension. Do you agree?
The inspiration came from both external and internal sources—life experiences, nature, and the band’s own evolution. We’ve drawn from everything, from cinematic soundscapes to the raw energy of doom and post-metal. The new album certainly feels like a step into new dimensions. It allowed us to refine our identity while exploring fresh sonic territories.
Something that I really enjoyed about the new album, is the sophistication of it. In which way was the production of “The Stronghold” different from the previous albums?
Thank you! The production was indeed different. We produced the record by ourselves and that helped us translate it into a fuller, richer sound. The process was more collaborative and deliberate than ever before, with a focus on capturing the live energy we’re known for while polishing the intricate layers in the mix.
Are you still satisfied with the album or is there something you would have changed?
Overall, we’re very proud of the album. But as musicians, there’s always a part of us that wants to tweak and experiment further. That’s the nature of art—you’re never completely done. That said, we wouldn’t change anything major it represents exactly who we were at that point in time.
You hooked up with Argonauta Records How did that come about? What was improved by being with a label?
Our partnership with Argonauta Records felt like a natural fit. They understood our vision and gave us the platform to expand our reach. Gero and his team makes an awesome work and our record is now sold out so we can’t be more pleased.
THE LUMBERJACK FEEDBACK has been known to evolve in sound at every new release. This is my opinion. How had the new material been received so far?
It’s been well-received, which is both gratifying and a relief! Listeners seem to appreciate that we’re not afraid to evolve while staying true to our roots. Each release challenges listeners to come with us on a journey, and we’re lucky that our audience embraces that.
Are there specific themes or emotions you seek to convey through your new tracks?
Definitely. Our music often explores themes of struggle, resilience, and fortitude. It’s instrumental, but we aim to convey emotions like triumph, through dynamics, melodies, and heaviness.
What kind of music do you personally listen to? Is music your inspiration, or there are some other sources of ideas for you?
We’re eclectic listeners—everything from sludge and doom to classical and experimental ambient. Beyond music, inspiration comes from nature, films, and even literature. Anything that stirs emotion can spark a riff or an idea.
Can you tell me something about position your band on metal scene and your homeland? What is the main problem for musicians in France?
The French metal scene has been growing steadily, but it still faces challenges—especially for underground bands. Visibility and access to resources can be tough, but the passion among musicians and fans is undeniable. We’re grateful for the respect our records have garnered, but there’s always more to achieve.
What is your view on today’s metal bands and the state of the music scene? Are you satisfied with position The Lumberjack Feedback? About your records people speaks with respect…
The metal scene is incredibly diverse right now, with bands pushing boundaries in every subgenre. It’s inspiring. As for us, we’re grateful for the respect we’ve earned, but we always strive for growth. Satisfaction is momentary—we’re always looking ahead.
What are some of your non-musical interests and hobbies?
We’re a mixed bag! Some of us are into hiking and photography, while others enjoy cinema or cooking. These hobbies often bleed into the creative process, giving us fresh perspectives.
We are nearing the end of the year. What are your plans for Christmas time?
The holidays are for recharging and spending time with family. Of course, we’ll also be jotting down ideas for future music—it’s hard to turn off the creative switch.
What could you tell us as about THE LUMBERJACK FEEDBACK’s near future and far future plans? Will you be playing more live gigs in the near future?
In the near future, we’re planning more gigs to bring “The Stronghold” to as many ears as possible.
Thanks a lot for your time. All the best and Happy New Year…
THANK YOU !
