Sharp shears move persistently through the fur of a sheep. Little by little, bare skin is revealed beneath the web of wool, tallow and dust. The curls lie close together, holding without being connected, forming something raw, something caught between transformation. This image gives “Vlies” its name and its essence: a record about exposure, struggle and change.
MRIODOM’s debut intertwines raw sounds into a heavy coat. A voice that moves from whispers to threats unfolds stories carried by the relentless thrum of drums, the menacing weight of bass, the slashing of guitars and the admonishing cry of the saxophone. These are stories that both expose and obscure, balancing prophecy with retrospection, and circling around the timeless conflicts of desire, sacrifice and possession.
“Vlies” was recorded, mixed and mastered by Jan Oberg at Hidden Planet Studios in Berlin. The choice to keep the lyrics completely in German adds weight and intensity to the record’s storytelling.
